According to a recent survey only about 75% of U.K. businesses cannot detect a data breach at any time and about 50% have experienced a data breach in the past 12 months that could have been avoided if appropriate technical and organisational measures had been in place.
The survey also revealed that data security concerns are escalating with 59% worried about mistakes from a temporary worker or contractor and 52% in fear of third party or outsourcers management of data (including the cloud).
An overwhelming majority consider customer data as the information most at risk, followed by business intelligence (32 percent).
The survey, of 118 U.K. IT and IT security professionals with responsibility for data protection, was completed by the Ponemon Institute and sponsored by Informatica.
